The School of Medicine is adding 14 students each year to its entering class until 2012 in response to projected physician shortages in Indiana and nationally. This 30 percent expansion of the school’s student body will enable it to contribute an additional 84 physicians annually to the profession. Half of the physicians in Indiana are graduates of the medical school.
IUPUI graduate and professional programs are moving up in national rankings like those compiled by U.S. News & World Report. Last year, the Nonprofit Management program in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI was ranked third in the nation by U.S. News. The graduate programs offered by the School of Nursing ranked 15th nationally, while the Master’s of Social Work program in the School of Social Work was ranked 26th.
The Ph.D. program in Philanthropic Studies offered through the Center on Philanthropy and the School of Liberal Arts graduated its first three students. The Ph.D. in Philanthropic Studies is the only program of its kind in the U.S. It blends practical expertise with scholarship, emphasizing research to develop solutions for nonprofit organizations, foundations, and communities.
